GOLDEN WEST LEAGUE : Servite Possessions Deep-Six Ocean View
HUNTINGTON BEACH — Servite scored on all six of its first-half possessions and defeated Ocean View, 48-13, in a Golden West League game Thursday at Huntington Beach High.
David Bedard scored on an 18-yard run and a 43-yard reception as the Friars (5-2, 2-0 in league) built a 41-6 halftime lead. Bedard then returned the second-half kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown.
Ocean View (0-7, 0-2) has lost 36 in a row, the longest streak in the state.
The dominant first-half offensive performance by the Friars, who gained 295 total yards before intermission, overshadowed a career-best performance by Ocean View quarterback Ted Norman.
Norman, a junior, passed for 264 yards and rushed for 67 more. He accounted for both Seahawk touchdowns, connecting with Jared De La Chica on an 84-yard pass in the first half and scoring on a 21-yard run in the third quarter.
Junior defensive end Sebastian Hernandez set up two scores on special teams plays.
A blocked punt by Hernandez on the opening possession of the game set the Friars up at the Ocean View 18, and Bedard scored on the next play for a 7-0 lead. After Frank Patti scored on a four-yard run in the second quarter to make it 27-6, Leland Washington muffed the ensuing kickoff and Hernandez recovered at the Ocean View 11.
On the next play, David Martin passed to tight end Phil Dumas for a touchdown.
