Beckman Instruments Reports Slight Quarterly Dip in Profits
Beckman Instruments Inc., the Fullerton-based manufacturer of automated systems and supplies for laboratories, had profit of $11.3 million, or 40 cents a share, for the third quarter, down 2% from the $11.5 million, or 42 cents a share, recorded for the 1993 third quarter. The company said special charges in the most recent third quarter totaled $4.8 million, or 11 cents a share, for the ongoing implementation of the company’s reorganization plan. Sales rose slightly to $217.8 million from $215.6 million. Nine-month profit was $29 million, or $1.03 a share, compared with $29.4 million, or $1.06 a share, for the corresponding three quarters last year. Sales were down slightly, to $638.6 million from $639.1 million.
