Rio Mesa Forfeits Only Victory of Season
Rio Mesa High administrators announced that the team will forfeit its Sept. 23 game against Santa Clara for using an ineligible player.
“It’s one of those unfortunate oversights that occur once in a great while,” said Brian Fitzgerald, athletic director for Rio Mesa.
“The young man in question was not an impact player. In fact he only played in two plays all season.”
Rio Mesa’s only victory of the season came against Santa Clara, 36-6.
The Spartans drop to 0-7, 0-4 in Channel League play.
