Tom Connolly
“Incumbent Spotlights His Spotted Past” (Oct. 16), on Assemblyman Tom Connolly (D-Lemon Grove), unfortunately made no reference to the dedication and accomplishments Connolly has shown as a legislator.
The lives of over 2 1/2 million veterans in California have been enhanced by his role as chairman of the subcommittee on veterans affairs. Of the 20 pieces of legislation tracked by the American Legion, Department of California, over half were either authored or co-authored by Connolly. His efforts were appreciated to the extent that at the Legion’s annual convention last June, Connolly was bestowed with the honor of “Legislator of the Year, 1994.”
It is truly unfortunate that world turmoil will always necessitate the readiness of our armed forces, requiring men and women to disrupt their lives for extended periods of time. We are fortunate, therefore, to have dedicated legislators like Connolly who will protect the rights of those who give so much of themselves in these necessary wars.
