Santa Ana Youth Dies of Shot in Neck
SANTA ANA — A teen-ager was fatally shot in the neck outside a Santa Ana apartment complex early Sunday, police said.
Federico Ceja Ibarra, 18, was found at 1:48 a.m. lying in front of an apartment on South Standard Ave., Santa Ana Police Sgt. Brian Collins said.
“The shooting was the result of some kind of fracas inside the apartment,” Collins said.
According to Collins, someone called police and said a man had come into an apartment with a rifle and shot another man in the leg.
But when police arrived, they found Ibarra, who lived on the same street as the complex, with a gunshot in the neck, Collins said.
Ibarra was pronounced dead at the scene.
Because witnesses said Ibarra was associated with a local gang, the shooting is being investigated by the Police Department’s gang detail, Collins said.
