Road Closed After Fire System Fails
Torrey Road south of Piru was closed late Sunday after a fire-fighting system at a Unocal Corp. propane pumping station failed, authorities said.
California Highway Patrol officers sealed off the roadway south of Telegraph Road (California 126) as a precaution after a water deluge system failed about 8:45 p.m., a Fire Department spokesman said.
It was not immediately known how much--if any--gas had escaped from the company’s Torrey Hill Pump Station at 3824 Guiberson Road.
Fire Department officials dispatched a hazardous materials team to the scene to determine why the system failed and if gas had escaped from the plant.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
