Calvin W. Rolark; Founded United Black Fund
Calvin W. Rolark, 67, founder of the United Black Fund of America and founding publisher of the Washington Informer newspaper in the nation’s capital. More than 20 years ago Rolark founded the United Black Fund, one of the nation’s largest black charitable fund-raising organizations. It has provided money for more than 150 Washington inner-city social service organizations and community projects. Rolark also worked with the United Planning Organization as both a contract coordinator and agency coordinator and was named Citizen of the Year by the District of Columbia Federation of Civic Assns. in 1969. In Washington on Oct. 23 of a heart attack.
