COLLEGE SOCCER ROUNDUP : Chapman Tops CS Dominguez Hills
Jason Hospedales and Josh Parrett each scored to lead Chapman to a 2-0 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills in a nonconference men’s soccer game Sunday at Dominguez Hills.
Goalkeeper Craig Bennett had seven saves for the Panthers (10-4-3). Dominguez Hills is 8-6-2.
Late Sunday, Chapman was awaiting word whether it had been awarded an NCAA Division III playoff spot.
In the Nevada Las Vegas Rebel men’s soccer tournament:
Maryland Baltimore County 4, UC Irvine 2--The Anteaters couldn’t make up a 3-0 halftime deficit and lost their season finale. P.J. Polowski and Jon Szczuka each scored for Irvine (11-8). Polowski finished the season with 19 goals and nine assists, and his two-year career at Irvine with a school-record 73 points.
In nonconference women’s soccer:
UC San Diego 3, Chapman 2--UC San Diego (11-0-3) took a 1-0 lead on a Chapman own goal one minute into the game and never trailed. Chapman’s Mary Folino scored in the second half to make it 3-2. Ellen Newport scored in the first half for the Panthers (12-6), who were also awaiting word on a possible Division III playoff spot.
In the UC Irvine Nike/Hyatt women’s soccer tournament:
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 2, UC Irvine 1 (OT)--Kolleen Kassis scored in the ninth minute of overtime to give the Mustangs (13-3-2) the victory and the title of the tournament.
San Luis Obispo goalkeeper Kristina Grigaitis, an Estancia graduate, had seven saves. Irvine’s Stephanie Boes, a Dana Hills graduate, had nine saves.
