Reseda Follows Rutter, 42-14
RESEDA — Senior quarterback Matt Rutter completed eight of 13 passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score Thursday night to lead Reseda High to a 42-14 victory over Monroe in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
Reseda jumped to a 14-0 lead when Rutter hooked up with tight end Alonso Arreola on a pair of first-half touchdowns. The first covered 24 yards and completed a 10-play, 74-yard opening drive.
Five minutes later, Rutter hit Arreola on a 38-yard scoring pass. Monroe closed within 14-7 in the second quarter when Jesse Jones scored from 58 yards on his first carry. Jones finished with 117 yards in 11 carries.
Reseda (7-3, 6-1 in conference play) opened the second half by scoring 21 consecutive points. Rutter scored on a three-yard run and tailback Charles Shells (14 carries, 80 yards) added touchdown runs of six yards and one yard for a 35-14 lead.
Nick Nuccitelli scored on a 13-yard run in the fourth quarter for Monroe (5-5, 4-3). Nuccitelli finished with 136 yards in 14 carries.
