Emissions Omissions: Brea-based American Suzuki Motor Co. agreed last week to pay a $194,000 fine to the federal Environmental Protection Agency to settle two dozen alleged violations of the Clean Air Act that occurred between 1989 and 1993.
The company said it reported the problems to the EPA after an internal review of procedures at the Suzuki technical center in Michigan revealed that employees did not notify the agency of some tests and maintenance procedures on cars used to generate emission data.
Suzuki officials characterized the problems as “technical difficulties.” They said that all of the company’s vehicles have met federal emissions standards and that the company did not benefit in any manner from the errors.
