Dino Valenti; Lead Singer of Quicksilver Messenger Service
Dino Valenti, 57, songwriter and lead singer of Quicksilver Messenger Service. Valenti’s real name was Chester Powers. He joined the band in 1964 and again in 1970, remaining until 1979. He had dropped out in the 1960s because of drug charges and imprisonment and a try at a solo career. Among the songs he wrote were “Get Together,” which was recorded by the Youngbloods, and “What About Me.” On Wednesday in Santa Rosa of unknown causes.
