PREP EXTRA / SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFFS : DIVISION X : Orange Lutheran Routs L.A. Baptist, 56-6
BREA — Top-seeded Orange Lutheran scored on its first four possessions and added an interception return for a touchdown to take 35-point lead at halftime and went on to a 56-6 victory over Los Angeles Baptist in a Division X playoff game Friday at Brea-Olinda High.
Orange Lutheran (9-2) dominated the game, rolling up 454 yards in total offense against Los Angeles Baptist (3-8), the division’s defending champion.
The Lancers advance to play Phelan Serrano next week.
Orange Lutheran scored on its first possession on a 32-yard pass from quarterback Joe Juliano to wide receiver Mike Crawford with 8 minutes 46 seconds left in the first quarter. The Lancers’ next touchdown came when running back Che Holloway scored on a 12-yard run.
Orange Lutheran added its third touchdown of the first quarter when Juliano completed a 24-yard scoring pass to Crawford with 46 seconds left in the quarter.
The Lancers scored when linebacker Aaron Kenney returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown. The score put Orange Lutheran up, 28-0. The final score of the half came when Matt Stratton ran into the end zone from two yards with 3:32 left.
The Lancers dominated on the ground thanks to Holloway and Najja Kee. Holloway finished with 152 yards in 11 carries. He scored two touchdowns, including one from 69 yards in the third quarter.
