SOUTHLAND ROUNDUP : La Verne Loses, Out of Playoffs
Junior wide receiver Chris Palmer caught three touchdown passes as St. John’s defeated La Verne, 51-12, Saturday in a first-round NCAA Division III West Region playoff game in Collegeville, Minn.
Palmer’s scoring plays were of 69, 23 and 12 yards.
The Johnnies (10-1) advance to the West Region quarterfinals next Saturday against Wartburg.
Anthony Rice of La Verne (9-1) rushed for 54 yards and caught five passes for 44 yards.
Sacramento State 23, CS Northridge 22--Jesse Klinge scored on a 12-yard run early in the fourth quarter and Sacramento State hung on in Sacramento.
Sacramento State finished 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the American West conference, while the Matadors went 3-7 and 0-3.
