Fox Ownership of TV Stations Challenged: In a petition to be filed with the Federal Communications Commission, NBC says a federal law against foreign ownership of U.S. stations was violated when Rupert Murdoch was allowed to acquire six TV stations in 1985, according the New York Times. Murdoch bought the stations, which became the foundation of the Fox network, through News Corp. of Australia. NBC wants the FCC either to force Fox to cut its level of foreign ownership or allow unlimited foreign investment in American networks, the newspaper said. The FCC is reviewing the 1985 decision.
