COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Arkansas’ Pressure Too Much for Tulsa
Corliss Williamson scored seven of his 21 points, and Davor Rimac made two straight three-point shots as third-ranked Arkansas turned up the heat at the outset of the second half with an 18-0 run and went on to beat Tulsa, 82-63, Friday night in Fayetteville, Ark.
Tulsa (3-2) made three turnovers in the first half while building a 36-32 lead, but committed seven in the first 4:14 of the second half. The Razorbacks (8-1) made six of nine shots during the run.
“The whole difference in the ballgame was our pressure defense in the second half,” Arkansas Coach Nolan Richardson said. “When we pressed, they didn’t handle it real well.”
Tulsa Coach Tubby Smith said, “They turned up the heat and we didn’t respond.”
Tulsa once closed to 59-52, but Clint McDaniel (18 points) countered with a three-point shot and Arkansas was never threatened again.
Shea Seals led Tulsa with 14 points.

No. 10 Connecticut 85, Fairfield 68--Ray Allen had 21 points and Doron Sheffer 16, and both keyed runs that helped the No. 10 Huskies (5-0) to a victory over the Stags (5-3) in Hartford, Conn.
The Huskies led, 43-30, at halftime and a nine-point run by UConn early in the second half made it 56-36. Fairfield got no closer than 14 points thereafter.
The Stags were led by Greg Francis with 20 points.

The Terrapins scored the first 12 points and led by 29 at halftime in earning their 1,000th victory. The 138 points surpassed the record of 130 against East Carolina on Dec. 7, 1977.
The Terrapins shot 64 percent and were 41 for 67 at the free-throw line. Morgan State did not shoot its first free throws until 12:03 remained in the game.
The 66-point margin also matched the biggest in Maryland’s history, a 66-point victory over Maryland Eastern Shore in February 1987.
