HUNTINGTON BEACH : Council Approves Fee Hikes at City Stables

Equestrians who board their horses at the city’s Central Park stables will pay higher fees starting in January.

The City Council recently approved a fee increase, despite objections from horse owners who believe the hike is unwarranted.

The new boarding rates include a $20 increase to $340 a month for a 12-by-12-foot box stall with a tack locker, and a $15 increase to $240 a month for a 12-by-24-foot pipe corral with a tack locker.

Other increases include: a new $35 fee for trailer parking; a $35 increase to $280 for a 24-by-24-foot pipe corral, and a $30 increase to $450 to keep a horse in the show barn.

City officials said there has not been a fee increase in boarding prices since January, 1992.

The operator of Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center requested the fee increase because of increased costs of running the facility, including higher costs for hay and shavings.
