Rides Home Offered to Drinking Drivers
Several transportation services in Camarillo, Oxnard and Simi Valley will offer free rides home to drinking drivers on New Year’s Eve, and towing companies will take drivers and their cars home.
“It’s the type of service that needs to be done. We want to keep the streets and road safe for everyone,” said Cindy Myers, office manager for Jim’s Emergency Road Service in Camarillo. “Although this should not be an excuse for people to go out and drink.”
The only requirements are that the cars be operable and that callers not ask to be taken to other parties or bars, Myers said.
Residents in Oxnard may contact McCarty & Sons Towing at 487-0117, while Camarillo residents can call Jim’s Emergency Road Service at 482-1210.
Residents of Simi Valley who need only a ride may call EZ Shuttle and Charter Service at 581-1451 or Lloyd’s Limousine and Van Shuttle Service at 581-5742. Those who need a ride and their car towed may contact Dave’s Club Service at 526-4221 and Swink’s Simi Valley Towing at 522-2262.
In another attempt to keep the roads safe, the California Highway Patrol is implementing a maximum enforcement program through midnight Monday.
