GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Santa Ana Beats Redondo Union to Win Savanna Tournament
Tanzenika Holmes scored 14 points to help Santa Ana defeat Redondo Beach Redondo Union, 47-44, Friday in the championship game of the Savanna Tournament at Savanna High.
Santa Ana (10-5) was down, 38-28, at the end of the third quarter but outscored Redondo Union, 19-6, in the fourth quarter. Letty Gil scored 13 for Santa Ana.
In a third-place game:
La Habra 50, La Mirada 30--Brook Koehler was the only player to hit double digits for the Highlanders, scoring a game-high 18 points for La Habra (8-5).
In consolation games:
El Modena 57, Sonora 31--Heather Potter scored 21 points for seventh-place El Modena (4-8). Aiyana Nash led Sonora with 23 points.
Bev Facey (Canada) 46, Savanna 37--Savanna (4-8) was led by Shauna Miller with 13 points.
Foothill 37, Buena Park 15--Ten players scored for the Knights (4-10) in their consolation-round victory. Erica Hoernig led the team in scoring with six points. Buena Park is 0-10.
Torrance 31, Cypress 25--Vivian Cheung and Kelly Fleishman each scored eight points for Cypress (6-7).
In the Righetti tournament:
Santa Maria Righetti 54, University 44--Natasha Combs scored 11 points, including three three-pointers, and Monique Mathews had 11 points for University (8-3) in the championship.
Righetti (9-5) jumped out to a 21-3 lead in the first quarter and led, 43-19, after three quarters before University scored 25 points in the fourth to close the gap.
In the Serrano Tournament
Whittier Christian 56, Arrowhead Christian 43--All-tournament selections Alana Kempton and Kim Menke scored 19 and 18 points to lead Whittier Christian (11-3), which took third place in the tournament.
