SANTA ANA : $2.2-Million Subsidy for FHP Project OKd
Acting as the Community Redevelopment Agency, the City Council has approved an 11-year, $2.2-million subsidy plan to lure a large FHP project to Santa Ana.
The council members voted 5-2 in favor of the plan to attract the health maintenance organization, which proponents said would create as many as 800 jobs. Council members Miguel A. Pulido Jr., Thomas E. Lutz, Robert L. Richardson, Tony Espinoza and Patricia McGuigan voted in favor of the plan; Lisa Mills and Ted R. Moreno opposed it.
Under the plan, the city would provide $200,000 each year for 11 years to help defray the costs of the FHP Administrative Office project. FHP plans to lease three office buildings from C.J. Segerstrom and Sons, and the subsidy would enable Segerstrom and Sons to obtain financing for improvements to the property required by FHP. The project is at 3100 Lake Center Drive, a report to the council states.
