World IN BRIEF : KUWAIT : Perry Calls on Iraq to Free 2 Americans
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
U.S. Defense Secretary William J. Perry called on Iraq to release two Americans as soon as possible and to treat them properly. Perry said he realized the Iraqis were “legally within their rights” to detain the two men since the pair entered Iraqi territory, but he said it was clear the Iraqis “took advantage of the situation and seized them.” The Americans--identified by relatives as David Daliberti, 41, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Bill Barloon of the Minneapolis area--were detained on March 13.
