Bennett, Carpenter on Greek Schedule : Concerts: Series subscriptions go on sale starting Sunday for the 1995 season at the upgraded theater.
Hot off their recent Grammy wins, Tony Bennett and Mary Chapin Carpenter are two of the highlights in the Greek Theatre’s 1995 schedule, with season series subscriptions on sale starting Sunday.
Carpenter, who won her fourth consecutive country female vocal Grammy, is set to appear June 10 at the outdoor facility in Griffith Park. Bennett, whose “MTV Unplugged” claimed the best album Grammy, is scheduled for Sept. 9.
In another date of note, English guitar hero Jeff Beck will be making his first tour in six years, co-headlining with Santana Sept. 19, 20 and 22.
General Manager Mike Garcia says that several features of the Greek have been upgraded for its 65th season, which officially begins with the Gipsy Kings’ May 5-7 shows (already on sale). Among the changes are new seats for most of the 6,000-plus capacity theater, improved arrangements for disabled patrons and an expansion of the on-site Zeus’ Restaurant.
The program of pre-concert festivals on the adjacent grounds is also being expanded this year, with a wine and cheese fair before John Tesh’s July 9 concert and a barbecue for a blues night topped by B.B. King on Aug. 6, joining the traditional Jamaican food and crafts fest accompanying the Reggae Sunsplash shows on May 27 and 28.
From Sunday through May 15, subscribers may order either a Premiere Club package, choosing any six shows, or a Premiere Club Ltd. set of any four, by mail or by calling (213) 480-7575.
Each plan gets preferential seating and first shot at shows that will be added later in the season before they go on sale to the general public. Tickets for individual shows will go on sale generally several weeks before the event.
