CONEJO VALLEY : PTA Council Honors 8 People, 2 Firms
Eight Conejo Valley residents and two businesses won recognition Wednesday night at the Conejo PTA Council’s annual awards ceremony.
Pat Phelps, president of Westlake High School Parent Teacher Assn., received an honorary service award, as did Alice Humbertson, who organized the Reflections art contest for the entire county.
In addition, Dawn Feeney and Margaret Travers received PTA oscars for their work with the art contest and exhibits, which include photography, artwork, music and literature.
Bob McCarter was honored for his work setting up the American Youth Soccer Organization program and the Thousand Oaks Flyers track club. Lyndsay Timpson was recognized for serving as soccer commissioner.
John Anderson and Joanne Nelson, who organized the Newbury Park Fund Run, received the oscars for their work, raising money for Newbury Park schools.
Albertson’s Food & Drug in Newbury Park was also recognized for its help with the fund run and other fund-raising projects. Sage Publications in Newbury Park received an oscar for donating time and money to nearby schools.
The PTA made donations in the name of each winner to a state PTA scholarship fund.
The ceremony was held at Sequoia Intermediate School in Newbury Park.
