In other Garden Grove League games:
Pacifica 6, Santiago 2--Ryan Johanson went three for four and scored two runs for Pacifica (5-5, 2-1). Teammate Jeff Barndollar went two for three with two RBIs and John Fenoglio had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Santiago is 3-5, 1-1.
Rancho Alamitos 8, Los Amigos 7--Freshman catcher Gerald Laird singled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to score Larry Mahoney with the game winner for Rancho Alamitos (4-5, 1-2). Los Amigos had tied the score in the top of the inning, scoring five runs. Laird was three for four.
In the South Coast League:
Trabuco Hills 13, San Clemente 4--Brian Costello hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Jake Anderson hit a two-run homer in the third as the Mustangs took an early lead.
Tom Kilby led off the first with a slap single to left and Nick Punto reached on an error, setting the stage for Costello’s drive over the left-field fence. Costello scored three runs for Trabuco Hills (4-3-1, 3-1).
Anderson began the game as one of the league’s leading hitters at .450 and his third home run of the season gave the Mustangs a 5-1 lead after three innings.
The Mustangs added a seven-run fourth on five hits and two walks to put the game out of reach, 12-1.
Ryan Kelley, who pitched six innings for Trabuco Hills, was hit hard at times. He was fortunate to have a solid defense because four of the five hits he gave up went for extra bases. Sam Adair hit a deep, opposite-field home run off Kelley in the fourth.
