SANTA ANITA : Longshot Patriotaki Emerges Down Stretch
Patriotaki, a 10-1 longshot, overtook 9-1 outsider Gary’s Lucky One midway through the stretch and then held on for a half-length victory in Thursday’s $57,000 feature race at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Gary Stevens and carrying 115 pounds, Patriotaki covered one mile on turf in 1:35 2/5 and paid $23.60, $11.40 and $6.60.
The win was the fourth in 13 lifetime starts for Patriotaki and was worth $31,350, raising the career earnings of the 6-year-old Kentucky-bred gelding to $143,325.
Gary’s Lucky One, ridden by Alex Solis and carrying 115 pounds, held the lead to midstretch before being caught and passed by the winner. Gary’s Lucky One crossed the finish 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Regal Rowdy and returned $10.80 and $6.
