Irvine has sister-city relationships with Hermosillo, Mexico, and Tsukuba, Japan.
Now the city is thinking about adding a sibling.
Members of Irvine’s Chinese American community are encouraging city officials to forge a relationship with the city of Suzhou, China, in part to establish a trade and commercial partnership. Suzhou is in the northwest part of the Jiangsu Province near the eastern coast of China. Officials from the Chinese city visited Irvine last fall.
Irvine officials may send a delegation to China in October. But, because of losses to the city from the county bankruptcy, the $2,500-per-person trip is contingent on funding from the Chinese community.

Knott’s Berry Farm’s Easter program for youngsters gets underway in Buena Park.
Three mazes for 3- to 12-year-olds are scattered around the amusement park.
The mazes are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The popular Easter program will run through April 23 at the park, 8039 Beach Blvd. in Buena Park. Tickets range from $17 to $21 for Southern California residents.
