ROUNDUP : Osborne, La Reina Put Championship Squeeze on Paraclete, 3-2

A one-out squeeze bunt in the eighth inning by Kelley Osborne drove in Aimee Thompson with the winning run Saturday as La Reina High defeated Paraclete, 3-2, in the championship game of the Paraclete softball tournament.

Jennifer Baltruzak (11-4) earned the victory for La Reina (16-5), striking out seven and walking two.

Vicki McKay (10-5) struck out five, walked none and had two hits for Paraclete (16-6).

Fillmore 4, Pasadena Poly 0--Nicole Uribe hit a three-run home run in the fourth as Fillmore (11-4) placed third in the Paraclete tournament.

Danielle Stines had a run-scoring triple in the first. Nicole Ortiz (6-2) pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

Montclair Prep 9, Notre Dame 3--Brandie Cohen’s two-run single sparked a nine-run fifth for Montclair Prep (15-3) in the consolation final of the Paraclete tournament.

Bishop 1, Oak Park 0--The Eagles (11-8) were eliminated from the Paraclete tournament after committing two errors in the second that led to the Knights’ run. Kristen Becker had two hits for Oak Park.

Hart 1, Buena 0--Anna Nordhagen scored in the bottom of the first for Hart (17-5) in the semifinals of the Thousand Oaks tournament. Kim Colleran (16-4) allowed two hits, struck out 12 and walked two. Nicole Greathouse (11-2) gave up three hits, struck out four and walked none for Buena (17-3-1).

Righetti 1, Camarillo 0--Camarillo pitcher Melanie Richardson (10-2) struck out 10 and walked three in the semifinals of the Thousand Oaks tournament.

Hoover 1, Agoura 0--Meredith Butler’s single in the fourth drove in Daphne Vadman for Hoover (11-11) in consolation play at the Thousand Oaks tournament. Tina Kinney (11-9) allowed two hits, struck out five and walked one to earn her fourth shutout.

Hoover 1, Moorpark 0--Tina Kinney (12-9) struck out six and walked two to earn her fifth shutout for Hoover (13-6) in another Thousand Oaks consolation game.

Guienvere Platt’s hit in the fourth was mishandled by pitcher Mindy Penrod (8-4), allowing Meredith Butler to score from third.

Camarillo 3, Clovis 0--Cindy Ball’s single in the eighth drove in Julie Borchard with the winning run for Camarillo (18-2-1) in a championship bracket game of the Thousand Oaks tournament.

Westlake 4, Crossroads 2--Erica Ehrlich’s seventh-inning double scored the go-ahead run for the Warriors (18-4) in a consolation game in the Thousand Oaks tournament.

In an earlier consolation game, Kelly DeArman hit a three-run homer in the first as Westlake defeated Simi Valley, 5-0.

Simi Valley 11, Cabrillo 1--Michelle Scohen tripled twice, driving in two runs for Simi Valley (11-12) in a six-inning victory in the Thousand Oaks tournament.

San Marcos 1, Newbury Park 0--Jenny Henke of San Marcos threw a no-hitter with nine strikeouts in the consolation semifinals of the Thousand Oaks tournament.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Campbell Hall 9, Brentwood 3--Erik Rasmussen’s three-run home run highlighted a six-run seventh inning in a Delphic League game at Brentwood.

Chris Poole had three hits and four runs batted in for the Vikings (8-7, 2-4 in league play), who defeated Brentwood for the first time ever.

Cornerstone Christian 15, Ojai Valley 1--Pitcher Shane Campbell struck out seven and walked five as Cornerstone Christian (5-6, 3-3) beat visiting Ojai Valley in a Condor League game.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

Valley 846, Cuesta 614, Ventura 592, Santa Monica 396, Canyons 387, Pierce 253--Anne Choi won the 500 freestyle in 5 minutes 28.33 seconds, earning a berth in next week’s State championships and leading the Valley women to the Western State Conference title at Cuesta College.

Lisa Turner of Ventura College was awarded female swimmer-of-the-year honors after winning three events earlier in the competition.

MEN’S SWIMMING

Cuesta 733, Valley 570, Ventura 450, Pierce 346, Santa Monica 199, Canyons 188--Danny Sullivan placed second for the Monarchs in the 100 freestyle, turning in a 47.88-second clocking in the Western State Conference championship meet at Cuesta College.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

CS Northridge 6, Hawaii 3--Right-hander Rob Crabtree allowed one earned run and struck out 12 late Friday night in a Western Athletic Conference game in Honolulu.

Northridge (25-22, 11-10 in WAC play) took a 4-3 lead in the eighth when Grant Hohman drew a bases-loaded walk from reliever Mark Johnson. Josh Smaler followed with a two-run single to right field.

Crabtree (7-6) allowed eight hits and walked four.
