WESTLAKE : Student Receives Amgen Scholarship
A Westlake High School senior has been named the first winner of a $16,000 college scholarship sponsored by Amgen, the Thousand Oaks-based biotechnology company.
Ed Hsieh, 17, plans to study chemical engineering at Princeton University and hopes to eventually become a patent lawyer, the company said.
The Amgen Foundation Scholarship Program is administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corp., which also awards National Merit Scholarships.
To be eligible for the scholarship, a student has to have a parent who works at Amgen. Ed Hsieh’s parents both work at the company.
