GM Will Build Ethanol Pickups: At a meeting last week of the Governors’ Ethanol Coalition--a group of Midwestern officials that support use of the corn-based alcohol fuel--General Motors Corp. Vice President Dennis R. Minano said GM will offer a line of light pickups that can run on regular gasoline, corn-based ethanol or a combination of the fuels. GM could produce as many as 100,000 of the trucks for 1997, depending on demand. Ethanol-blended fuel--generally 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline--is widely sold throughout the Midwest. Such blended fuel can be used in most vehicles without their being modified.
