KINGSTON, Jamaica — A Haitian refugee who was being deported from Jamaica after being refused entry into the United States committed suicide by jumping from an airplane into the sea, officials said Thursday.
The Trans-Jamaican plane was flying off Morant Point, at the eastern tip of Jamaica, when Jean Leon Germaine opened an emergency door at 11,000 feet and jumped out Wednesday, the Jamaica Police Information Center said.
Germaine’s body has not been recovered.
