LOS ANGELES COUNTY : County Reports 1 Highway Death Over Holiday Period
One person was killed on Los Angeles County highways during the 78-hour Memorial Day holiday, six fewer than last year, the California Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.
Statewide this year, on the weekend that started Friday at 6 p.m., 39 people were killed in traffic accidents--three fewer than in the same period last year, said CHP Officer Pablo Torres.
In Los Angeles this Memorial Day weekend, 394 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, compared with 354 last year.
And statewide during this year’s holiday weekend, 1,570 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence, compared with 1,780 last year, Torres said.
The figures are provisional and may change when final results are in, he said.
