STANTON : City to Buy Radar but Delay Cycle Purchase

The City Council delayed buying a motorcycle for use by the Sheriff’s Department in patrolling Stanton’s streets, but it did decide to buy some radar equipment to help identify speeders.

Councilman Sal Sapien said last week he supported buying the equipment because, to his chagrin, he has found them to be rather effective in catching speeders.

“I was once the unwitting victim of a radar unit,” Sapien said. “It was very effective. It was in a residential zone and I definitely stopped speeding there.”

The council cannot allocate money for a motorcycle until a new vendor is found and an exact price is agreed upon.

Sheriff Capt. Robert Eason said officials had hoped to buy a motorcycle from the city of Brea, but that one has since been sold. Eason said he expected to be in front of the council with a new proposal and a new vendor in two weeks.
