Howell to Coach at Costa Mesa
COSTA MESA — Hoping to continue the success that Myron Miller brought to the program, Costa Mesa High School Wednesday named Azusa High assistant Jerry Howell its football coach.
Howell has coached 27 years, including the top job at Foothill (1987-89), Eastern Oregon State College (1984-87) and Occidental College (1980-82).
He was the offensive coordinator at Claremont College from 1989-93 while teaching at Servite and has been an assistant coach and dean of athletics and activities at Azusa High since 1993.
Miller coached at Costa Mesa for only three years, but changed the program’s fortunes; the Mustangs were 16-6-3 the last two years, and 19-13-3 during Miller’s tenure. He left recently to coach Tustin.
