NYSSA, Ore. — An Amtrak train slammed into a pickup truck Thursday, killing seven farm workers on their way to the fields.
The accident took place just before dawn at a rural crossing marked only with a stop sign, Amtrak spokeswoman Dawn Soper said.
None of the 165 passengers or 13 crew members aboard the westbound Pioneer from Chicago were injured, Soper said.
The train was traveling at 70 to 79 m.p.h., the spokeswoman said.
