Motorist Robbed After Stopping to Check Engine
ORANGE — A 36-year-old motorist was knocked out and robbed of his wallet and other valuables after stopping at the side of the road to check on the engine of his car, authorities said Thursday.
Sam Lutas was driving on Santiago Canyon Road near Peters Canyon Road less than a mile outside of Orange about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday when he stopped to figure out if a strange noise he had heard was coming from his engine, Sheriff’s Lt. Jay Mendez said.
“He was stunned by a punch in the face,” Mendez said. “He didn’t even see the person coming, so we have no descriptions.”
Lutas, whose address was not known, fell and woke up moments later to find his wallet, a ring and a watch missing, Mendez said.
