10 Arrested in Riot at Rock Concert
Ten people--including one performer--were arrested after a riot erupted Sunday at an all-day rock concert at the Glen Helen Blockbuster Pavilion in Davore, authorities said.
Two San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies were slightly injured during the melee when patrons began throwing chunks of concrete after officers used pepper spray to maintain order, said department spokeswoman Deputy Cheryl Huff.
Shortly after 6 p.m., several fights broke out among patrons at the concert billed as the Punk Show--a 12-hour extravaganza that was to include 21 bands and a laser light show. Two deputies who arrived at the scene were overcome by the crowd and called for reinforcements, Huff said.
“Once enough people gathered around to watch the fight, more and more people became involved,” she said.
Eventually, a dozen officers wearing riot gear returned. Among those charged was the lead singer of a band called Guttermouth, who was arrested on suspicion of inciting the crowd.
Witnesses said the crowd became unruly after several band appearances were scratched on the crowded bill and one band was unplugged during a song.
