Executive Travel : It’s in the Comfort Zone
Reports from travelers and travel publications indicate that the new twin-engine Boeing 777 jetliner is comfortable, especially in business class.
Ed Perkins, editor of the Consumer Reports Travel newsletter, said that United’s configuration of the 777 also offers an extra inch or so of width in coach.
“The seating reminded me of what the DC10s and 1011s provided when they were first delivered,” he said.
There are nine seats across in United’s version of the 777.
The first-class seats in the 777, which run in three pairs across the cabin, are 21 1/4 inches wide, those in business class are 19 1/2 inches, and coach seats are 1 inch narrower than that. But all three classes of seats on the new plane are wider than seats on all other airliners, including the 747.
