3 Injured as Car Plunges Off Road
A car traveling south on Pacific Coast Highway near the Los Angeles County line rolled off the side of the road Wednesday night, landing on the rocks near the beach.
All three occupants of the vehicle, whose names were not released, were injured in the accident.
The car dropped about 100 feet, according to California Highway Patrol officials, who got the call shortly after 8 p.m. Witnesses told investigators that the driver apparently had pulled onto the shoulder and misjudged the drop-off.
Two of the three occupants were airlifted to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard with major and moderate injuries, said Claude Ball, a dispatcher for the CHP.
A third occupant suffered minor injuries. The southbound lane of the highway was closed for several hours while CHP workers attempted to pull the car back up to the road.
