Moorpark Man Crushed to Death While on Job
NORTHRIDGE — A 63-year-old Moorpark man doing earthquake repairs was crushed to death when he fell under a trailer on Thursday afternoon, police said.
Wing Chu Jay was riding on a trailer being towed by a flatbed truck east on Malden Street near Enfield Avenue about 3:05 p.m. when he tried to climb onto the flatbed, Los Angeles Police Officer Bill Mulvihill said. But Jay slipped and fell between the vehicles, and was run over by the trailer, Mulvihill said.
He died about 50 minutes later at Northridge Hospital Medical Center.
Mulvihill said Jay worked part-time cleaning quake rubble from the streets for a company hired by the city of Los Angeles, and that the crew was on its way to another site from a previous job in Northridge.
