Chalmers Edwin Lones Jr.; Fresno Attorney
Chalmers Edwin Lones Jr., 81, a Fresno attorney who drafted that city’s Municipal Code and its City Charter. Lones was a former city attorney and Justice Court judge of Kingsburg near Fresno. Born in Los Angeles, he earned his law degree at USC and began his private practice in Kingsburg in 1938. A Navy commander during World War II, he set up the U.S. Naval School of Justice at Port Hueneme in 1942 to teach court-martial procedure. He spearheaded production of a textbook, “Naval Justice,” simplifying and codifying naval law. On July 14 in Fresno.
