Hornaday Vaults Onto the Pole for the Third Time This Season
Ron Hornaday Jr. of Palmdale used his extensive road-racing experience to outdistance the field by one-half second Friday and win the pole position for the $166,550 Heartland Tailgate 175 SuperTruck race at Topeka, Kan.
Hornaday, who previously won poles at Phoenix and Denver, drove his Chevrolet to a lap of 92.430 m.p.h. over Heartland Park Topeka’s 1.8-mile road course. That was significantly faster than series point leader Mike Skinner, who settled for the outside front row starting position with a speed of 91.770, also in a Chevrolet.
Todd Bodine, making his first series appearance, was No. 3 qualifier at 91.698 in a Ford.
