VENTURA : Dad, Son Due Back From Bicycle Trek
A father-and-son team who pedaled across the country to raise funds for two local organizations are scheduled to return to Ventura today.
The father, Ken Cozzens, and his 17-year-old son, Shaun, who both live in Camarillo, made a 38-day bicycle trip from California to the East Coast.
They averaged about 100 miles a day during the trip, aimed at raising funds for the local chapters of the Alzheimer’s Assn. and the American Cancer Society.
Friends, family, and supporters of the team plan to have a party for them tonight.
Cozzens, a sergeant with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, financed the trip with money earned working overtime at the La Conchita mudslide.
Both of Shaun’s grandfathers died of cancer, and another family member was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
