San Gabriel Valley : SATELLITE STATION
Two sheriff’s deputies have moved their operations to South El Monte City Hall from the Sheriff’s Department substation in Temple City, about 15 miles away, City Manager Rita Hardin said Tuesday.
The two deputies will work mostly on special assignments, such as Neighborhood Watch programs, and respond to emergency calls. They will not be able to take routine reports, Hardin said.
But city officials are working on plans to find land for a full-service sheriff’s substation, Hardin said. Meanwhile, she said, the deputies’ presence will increase the sheriff’s visibility in the city at a cost of less than $10,000 a year for expenses such as computers and telephones.
