VENTURA : Preparations Under Way for County Fair
Workers started Wednesday preparing rides, attractions and food stands for the Ventura County Fair, which opens Aug. 16 and will continue until Aug. 27.
The annual fair is held at Ventura’s Seaside Park at Harbor Boulevard and Figueroa Street, and on-site parking will cost $5 per car. Off-site parking locations at the Ventura County Government Center, Ventura High School and Buenaventura Mall will be served by free shuttle buses.
Admission prices are $6 for patrons 13 and older, $3 for children 6 to 12 and senior citizens 55 and up, and free for children 5 and under.
The fair will open at 11 a.m. daily and exhibits will close at 10 p.m. daily.
The fair features carnival rides, rodeos, motor sports and competitions in agriculture, fine arts, hobbies, photography, livestock and other exhibits. The musical entertainment includes Tom Jones, Pam Tillis with Williams & Ree, Ed Ames and Kay Starr, Queen Latifah, Smokey Robinson, and the Oak Ridge Boys.
There will be special events such as a chili cook-off and junior livestock auction as well as contests including pie eating, cow-chip tossing, kite making, egg tossing and pizza making.
