Orange County
July Unemployment Report Due: Orange County’s jobless figures are scheduled to be released Friday by the state Employment Development Department. Of particular interest will be the county’s manufacturing sector, which has seen two consecutive months of job growth. Analysts say a third monthly increase may mean that the long decline in manufacturing is over. The county’s overall jobless rate was 5.5% in June. If past trends hold, that rate will probably rise because of the usual flood of job-seekers during the summer. In July, 1994, unemployment in the county shot up to 6.6% from 5.8% in June.
