MONDAY / RAMSEY RETURNS

Elmer Ramsey, longtime conductor of the now-defunct Conejo Symphony Orchestra, will lead the Conejo Pops Orchestra for a Labor Day Concert in Thousand Oaks. Held at Conejo Community Park, Dover and Hendrix avenues, the performance will include John Philip Sousa’s “Sempre Fidelis March,” plus selections from “My Fair Lady,” “Porgy and Bess,” “The Sound of Music” and more. FAMILY PICNIC

The city of Moorpark will play host to the “Labor of Love” family picnic at Arroyo Vista Recreation Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The schedule includes: Moorpark High School Chorus, 11 a.m.; Kavlico Children’s Magic Show, 11:30 a.m.; karate exhibition, 12:30 p.m.; and Cactus County Western Band, 1:30 p.m. Free. UP THE COAST

* The Santa Barbara Symphony will present “Symphony Pops ‘n’ Picnic” in the al fresco setting of the Santa Barbara Bowl at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Conducted by Gisele Ben-Dor, the symphony will perform a program of mostly Latin themes, including Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Capriccio Espagnol,” Gershwin’s “Cuban Overture,” and Falla’s “Three-Cornered Hat.” Guitar virtuoso Jose Maria Gallardo del Rey of Spain will perform. * A benefit for the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra will offer a ritzy afternoon of wine tasting, luncheon, polo matches and a performance by the orchestra. Billed as the “Polo, Wine and Music Festival,” the event will be held at the Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club, 3375 Foothill Road, Carpinteria. The luncheon will be served at noon and the first polo match will begin at 1 p.m. Next, the orchestra will perform Dvorak’s “Serenade for Winds, Op. 44,” works from Bizet’s “Carmen” and selections for a brass quintet. The concert will be followed by a second polo match at 3 p.m. Luncheon attendees will be assigned field-side seats. Tickets for the entire slate are $100; polo matches and wine tasting only, $20. * The Santa Barbara International Jazz Festival, an annual three-day event, is set to kick off Saturday at Stearns Wharf. Featured performers include Sal Marquez, Freddie Ravel, Juan Carlos Quintero, Bill Cunliffe and Supersax.
