Studio City : Valley Man Is Head of City Fire Commission
A San Fernando Valley business leader has been elected president of the Los Angeles City Fire Commission.
David W. Fleming, a 1991 recipient of the Fernando Award, a Valley tribute for volunteerism, took the commission’s reins on Aug. 15.
The Studio City resident is a lawyer with the international law firm of Latham & Watkins and chairman of the Valley Industry and Commerce Assn.’s governmental affairs committee.
Fleming said that as leader of the Fire Commission, he would like to inaugurate a new computer program for the 911 emergency dispatch system to reduce delays in response times to emergency calls. Another one of his goals, he said, is to decentralize tasks and responsibilities within the department to increase efficiency and cut costs.
