Crash Kills Motorcyclist Fleeing Police
ANAHEIM — A 25-year-old motorcyclist fleeing police at speeds of more than 100 m.p.h. died Saturday after crashing while crossing railroad tracks.
Police said a patrol officer was trying to pull over the motorcyclist for speeding shortly before 3 p.m. when the man, whose name was withheld pending the notification of relatives, took off.
The motorcyclist sped through city streets, from Lincoln Avenue to Olive Street, eventually loosing the police.
Another patrol officer radioed the motorcyclist’s location as he sped past and police blocked off streets to catch the suspect, who was still traveling at more than 100 m.p.h., police said. When the Anaheim police helicopter found the man two minutes later, he was lying motionless on the railroad tracks between Vermont Street and Ball Road.
Police said the driver appeared to have lost control when he hit the tracks and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. A loaded handgun was found at the man’s side, police said.
