Pacoima : Youth, 16, Arrested in Teen-Ager’s Killing
A 16-year-old Pacoima youth has been arrested on suspicion of murder for a shooting last month that left one youth dead and two others injured at Hubert H. Humphrey Memorial Park, police said Thursday.
The suspect, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was taken into custody Wednesday at his Pacoima apartment in connection with the Aug. 30 killing of Alejandro Villegas, 18, of Pacoima.
Police found Villegas shot near Dronfield Avenue and Filmore Street. He later died at Holy Cross Medical Center. Two other teen-agers were also shot in the incident, but survived the attack, police said.
Los Angeles Police Detective Frank Bishop said his investigators have not determined whether the 16-year-old arrested Wednesday fired the fatal shot that killed Villegas. “We’re looking for other suspects,” Bishop said.
The killing of Villegas was one of six gang-related fatal shootings in the Foothill Division in August. Bishop said Villegas’ killers may have been acting in retaliation to another shooting several days earlier.
