OAK VIEW : Chlorine Spill Closes Highway for 3 Hours
A portion of California 33 was closed for nearly three hours Thursday while county hazardous-material officials cleaned up a small chlorine spill, Ventura County fire officials said.
A driver using a cellular telephone notified the CHP of a noxious spill between Ojai and Oak View at about 6:45 a.m., officials said. They believe the chlorine accidentally spilled off a pool-cleaning truck, without the knowledge of the truck driver. They do not expect to pursue an investigation or file charges.
Traffic was diverted onto side roads until the five-gallon spill, covering a 50-square-foot area, was cleaned up at 9:45 a.m. There were no injuries.
