COSTA MESA : District Develops Plan to Hush Water Pump
The new reservoir in east Costa Mesa is giving some people bad vibes.
Several residents have complained to the Mesa Consolidated Water District that a pump at its new reservoir makes a bothersome humming sound and causes their homes to vibrate.
The water agency hired sound engineers to investigate and, on their advice, will install mufflers on the pump today.
Mesa Consolidated spokeswoman Mary Urashima said the effectiveness of the mufflers will be tested over the weekend. The district is confident, she said, that the devices will do the job.
“The decision to put these in is based on the work done by the acoustical engineers,” Urashima said. “It is their judgment that this will work.”
If the test is successful, district officials said, they will order three more mufflers for other pumps. Each device costs between $10,000 and $15,000.
